Approval junkies

Just the other day i had 99% positive feed back about a project i did and that 1 person's view ruined the other
99% ,now isn't that funny. Then i remembered something i once read ,
"One does not miss the absence of 1 rose when holding a thousand roses" But it hurts right ,you start ignoring the rest of the
people who acknowledge your work because of 1 person . Why do we do that to ourselves ?

One can say maybe we take that rejection very personal , i mean why does everyone acknowledge it
and that one person just doesn't, period. And why does it even matter .
"Fear or revere me, but please think I'm special." We share an addiction. We're approval junkies.
We're all in it for the slap on the back and the gold watch. The "hip, hip, hoo-fucking-rah." Look at the clever boy
with the badge, polishing his trophy. Shine on, you crazy diamond. Cos we're just monkeys wrapped in suits,
begging for the approval of others " Jake Green from Revolver (2005)

I remember the first time i heard that line , wow it flawed me dead . I mean aren't we ? lets just be honest here , everybody
enjoys a compliment every now and then but when that rejection comes it takes us back to our little corner in the dark.
Looking at the definition, Approval: the belief that something or someone is good or acceptable: a good opinion of someone or
something: permission to do something : acceptance of an idea, action, plan, etc. One can see why we might need peoples approval
but to what extent are we exposing ourselves to these rejections and approvals. I feel somewhat confused between the two ,
can one exist without the other ?
